Samsung Electronics unveiled its Smart Modular Home — an AI-enabled residential model designed for modular architecture — at IFA 2025, Europe’s largest home appliance exhibition.

▲ View of the Smart Modular Home
The Smart Modular Home combines AI-enabled appliances, high-efficiency HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems and seamless connectivity through SmartThings1 and SmartThings Pro into a single built-in residential solution. With IFA 2025 as a launch point, Samsung plans to bring its Smart Modular Home to the global B2B market.
Samsung Newsroom got a firsthand look at how the Smart Modular Home is transforming residential spaces.
A Seamlessly Connected AI Home

▲ With 3D Map View in SmartThings, users can check the status of home appliances at a glance and control them.
Upon entering the Smart Modular Home, visitors are greeted by a wall-mounted panel on the right featuring SmartThings’ 3D Map View. The display shows the real-time status of appliances throughout the home, letting users monitor and control devices instantly as they adapt to the user’s lifestyle and environment. At the entrance, a smart security camera2 and smart door lock provide convenient and secure access.
A Home That Works Behind the Scenes

▲ When a user returns home, SmartThings automatically adjusts the lighting and temperature by controlling devices.
As visitors pass through the entrance into the kitchen, the home immediately demonstrates its intelligence. Linked to the smart door lock, SmartThings detects when someone enters, turns on the lights and gently opens the curtains. The robot vacuum completes its cleaning cycle and docks at the charging station, while the air conditioner adjusts the room to the preferred temperature.
Smarter Energy Use

▲ With SmartThings Energy, users can schedule and charge appliances at optimal times.
With all home appliances connected through SmartThings, energy management becomes effortless. On a smartphone, SmartThings Energy shows current usage and the projected monthly total at a glance. Optimal Scheduling3 allows the washing machine and dishwasher to run outside peak hours, while the robot vacuum charges just enough during the day and completes charging overnight when electricity rates are lower.

▲ With EHS, users can manage underfloor heating, cooling and hot water in the Smart Modular Home.
Underfloor heating, cooling and hot water are powered by EHS heat pump solutions designed for the Smart Modular Home. In future Smart Modular Home complexes, SmartThings Pro could be used for centralized HVAC management to improve operational efficiency.
A Home That Transforms for Play
In the multipurpose room, launching Game Mode in the SmartThings app turns off the ceiling lights and closes the curtains. LED lights sync with the game’s visuals and rhythm, while the air conditioner adjusts to the optimal temperature for maximum comfort. The result is an immersive gaming environment that transforms the home into an adaptive, experience-rich space that goes beyond daily routines.
As Samsung continues to bring innovations to the Smart Modular Home,4 users can look forward to the evolving future of AI-enabled living spaces.
1 Applicable to appliances connected to the SmartThings App available on Android and iOS devices. Requires routine setup through the SmartThings app. A Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account are required.
2 Video footage captured by cameras is processed by the intelligent Smart Video Management System (SVMS) developed by S-1 Corporation, using its functions to detect, analyze, recognize and notify abnormal situations — such as fire, falls or intrusion — so that countermeasures can be established.
3 Available in countries such as those in Europe where peak-time pricing is applied. Availability and benefits may vary by electricity provider and tariff conditions. Optimal Scheduling is set by the user in SmartThings Energy during peak-time settings. The device notifies the user of peak times and allows them to choose when to start. For home appliances without screens, users can check Optimal Scheduling status through an LED indicator.
